Flatdogs Camp

Be welcomed at the airport and transferred 30 minutes by road to Flatdogs Camp. Meet the friendly team and check into your luxury en-suite safari tent which offers you a back to nature taste of the wild, with large windows all around the tent so you can see and hear the animals feeding in camp as well as the hippopotamus honking to each other in the river in front of you. The tents are spacious with a king bed, large mosquito net, electric lights and plug sockets for re-charging batteries and have semi open en-suite bathrooms with hot shower, WC and basin. Enjoy dinner from the ala carte menu before heading to bed to listen to sounds of the African wildlife.

Safari activities

Up early for a light breakfast before heading out on your morning game drive to explore the magic of the South Luangwa National Park. Blessed with an abundance of varied animals and bird life including the ever popular zebra, Thornicroft giraffe, lions, leopard, Cape buffalo, elephants, warthogs, Puku, hippos, crocodiles, baboons and the elusive African wild dogs and more. You will head back to camp at around 10.00am in time for breakfast or a brunch/lunch type meal then there is time to relax during the heat of the day, enjoying a dip in the pool or a siesta after your early start. Meet again in the courtyard for tea at 330pm, then head into the Park at 4.00pm ready to explore this magnificent wilderness. The Flatdogs guides take huge pride in their work, being able to identify numerous alarm calls and to track animals and try to anticipate their next move so as to position you for the best sightings. As the sun starts to dip towards the horizon, your guide will find a good spot to stop so you can stretch your legs and watch the sun set with a cold drink in hand… Then, once it’s nearly dark, you will carry on game-viewing with a spotlight, searching for some of our interesting nocturnal residents, like the leopard, lion, porcupine, civet, genet, owls and hyena. Return to camp at around 8.00pm in time to enjoy dinner in the candle lit courtyard or restaurant.

The safari guides were outstanding and we had the most sensational safaris. The food is awesome and our visits to Mulberry Mongoose, Mfuwe School , Project Luangwa to meet Karen and the CSL base were a highlight of our 7 night stay. Thanks Wendy

This was a trip of a lifetime for my husband & my honeymoon! Adventure & luxury combined with being immersed in nature, plus the added value of seeing the ecosystem of the community of Mfuwe at a broader level through the conservation tours and experiencing the safari’s in South Lwuanga National Park. After visiting other parks in South Africa previously, this tour was a ‘real’ experience, no animals shipped in, a beautiful story unfolded through the week of safari’s of how each animal played its part. I would trust & highly recommend the Africa Safari Experts for any tour. Thanks to Wendy & the Team, one day we will come back!
